SAN FRANCISCO – Fifteen children and
one adult chaperone were rescued Saturday afternoon from San Francisco Bay
waters near Fort Mason after their catamaran flipped over near Aquatic Park, CBS San Francisco reports.
A person on the ferry Old Blue saw the victims and called
the Coast Guard at about 3:30 p.m., according to authorities.
A police marine boat
and the Coast Guard responded.
When rescuers arrived, half the kids were still clinging
to the boat.
“It took us a little while,” said USCG Petty Officer
Alexander Baird. “We were getting blown all over the place by the wind but we
were able to get all of the eight remaining people on our boat, put them down
below and give them blankets. They were all cold and wet.”
The kids on board were all Sea Scouts.
They suffered minor cuts and bruises.
